Your first months
- Month 1
- You start on a low dose so your body can get used to it.
- Check-ins
- Your provider asks how it's going and adjusts your dose from there.
Some people feel a little queasy at first, or when the dose goes up. It usually settles down. Smaller meals and plenty of water help, and your provider can slow things down if you need it.
- Long term

Important safety information
Don't use a GLP-1 if you or your family have had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2. In animal studies these medicines caused thyroid C-cell tumors; it isn't known whether they do in people. Tell your provider right away about a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath. They can also cause pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, and low blood sugar if taken with insulin or certain diabetes medicines. Your provider reviews your history for all of these.
