High-protein meals on semaglutide: a plan for every plate
By the Everlon founding team · · How we write and review health content
High-protein meals on semaglutide, or on any GLP-1, don't take an app or a scale. You just need a plan for each plate: pick the protein first, then build the rest of the meal around it.
What counts as protein
USDA's MyPlate counts meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, beans, peas and lentils, nuts, seeds and soy products as protein foods. Beans, peas and lentils count as vegetables too. Yogurt, milk and cheese sit in MyPlate's dairy group, and many of them carry protein as well.
Easy picks at every meal
- Breakfast: eggs, Greek yogurt or cottage cheese
- Lunch and dinner: chicken, fish, lean beef, tofu, beans or lentils
- Snacks: cheese, edamame, a handful of nuts, or a protein shake when you're on the go
Start with breakfast
It's where a lot of people come up short, and fixing it often makes the rest of the day easier. The five-minute breakfast is a good first try.
If your appetite is smaller than it used to be
Eat the protein on your plate first, then the rest. If eating is hard, or you feel sick after meals, tell your provider: they are the right person for anything about side effects.
Keep water in sight
A water bottle on your desk makes it easy to drink through the day.
Try this today: plan tomorrow's breakfast around protein.
